Air Pollution

The sustainability issue I have chosen is air pollution. Some causes of the issue are cars, factories and people. Cars are one of the issues because of gas, whether it be a run down car or a very sporty car they are both bad for the environment. They release smoke, toxins and other gasses because of petrol which go towards the atmosphere, causing our atmosphere to break down and allow more heat inside of Earth. People have tried to solve this issue by creating electric cars. They are run by electricity and work like any other car. An example of this is Tesla. They are an american based car company that sells electric cars that are used in everyday life. The cars are run by batteries that use electricity to run. For as long as 220-310 miles! A disadvantage is that if you overcharge the battery, like any other electronic item the battery will start to drain quicker. Another way to cut down on air pollution is to reduce the use of fossil fuels. Fossil fuels like coal and oil, create gas that breaks down our ozone layer, that means that we have a better chance of getting skin cancer and global warming has a chance to strike even harder.

Social Studies

L.O:Understand how the New Zealand government is structured and how people can have a say.
In New Zealand there are three different types of governments, Legislative, Executive, Judicial. A legislative type of government is mainly a type of government that makes laws in our countries. Executives finalize the laws and make big decisions about our countries. A Judicial government also finalizes the laws, and figure out how they work and what the punishment could be.

This term for social studies we learned about the different types of government some of the different types of government are communism, dictatorship and democracy. We were then asked to learn about a certain country and the government style in that country. I chose communism in North Korea because it seemed interesting and I wanted to learn about it. Communism is a very weird type of government because everyone shares the same amount of money, everyone is employed, and everyone is educated.  We were then asked to create a presentation about what we learned about the system of government. This is my presentation about Communism in North Korea.

Government

This week for Social Studies we are now learning about government. A Government is a person or a group of people who make official decisions for a country, state, or area. New Zealand has a democratic government. By voting we give the right to decide on things like Wars, Laws, Taxes and Treaties. The government's job is to protect the citizens in their county, state or area. Citizens vote peacefully on who they want to be the government. in return the government gives protection. citizens also give power to the government which gives them the power to make changes in the county.  We pay taxes because it gives money to the government to make changes in our country. The government spends our tax money towards making more schools, making more roads, and making buildings that can help profit our country. The government makes laws to keep its citizens safe, they also make laws so then the citizens have rules to follow to keep everyone safe. Some laws can be as small as parking in certain areas to you must be who knows how old to drink or to drive a car. We give the power to let the government to make treaties with other countries to be able to buy and import things from countries such as japan and america. We give them the right to send soldiers to war if it ever happens.

Social Studies

This week for Social Studies we have been working on family crests and our Identity. We were given a shield like crest that was split into four different areas that we were suppose to draw in.  My four squares were about my culture, my family, New Zealand and myself. In my culture square I did a bracelet to represent a holiday that my family celebrate. I did a Flame because of diwali, the festival of lights which I celebrate every year, and a christmas tree is obviously for christmas. In my family square I drew all my family members in the gender sign and did my parents shop which we own. In my New Zealand Square I did a Kiwi which is our endangered native animal, Mountains to represent Sir Edmund Hillary who climbed Mt Everest, The four stars to represent the flag, A Fantail which is a New Zealand bird, A koru, and a earthquake for the big christchurch earthquake. In my square about me I did my gender in the sign again a face structure for my drawing side, a game controller to show that I play games, my favourite band which is Panic! At The Disco, Me from my back, and a happy face to show that I am always happy.

Here is a photo of the crest, I hope you like it.
