Enterprise Studies - Kiwisaver Advertisement

These past two weeks for business studies we have been learning about Kiwisaver. Kiwisaver is when you voluntarily put money away from retirement, if you work your employer does too. Our task today was to create an advertisement about what Kiwisaver is and how to convince someone to have a Kiwisaver account. I decided to create a slideshow that explains what is, how it can help with retirement, withdrawals, and the risks.

I Personally like my advertisement because it gets straight to the point and you can understand it as well. I like how I was able to add my information easily and then add photos afterwards because I could figure out what looks good and what doesn't. I could've done better if I learned a bit more about Kiwisaver, but I did still learn a lot.

Do you have a Kiwisaver Account or something similar?

Enterprise Studies - 6 Steps to Budgeting

This week for Business studies we have continued to learn about budgeting and how people can save money. This week we have been tasked to create a DLO to show the 6 steps of budgeting. I decided to create a Prezi with my information because I found it would be the easiest tool to use to make a DLO on.

Personally, I like my DLO because it gives information without it being too hard and it is quite simple. I could've done better if I had more time to write down the information because it was hard to put into words. Budgeting is quite a hard thing to do and hard to maintain without almost breaking.

Have you ever tried to have a budget, if so are did you maintain it or did you break?

Enterprise Studies - Impulse Buying Brochure

This week for Enterprise Studies we have been learning about impulse Buying. Impulse buying is when you buy things unnecessarily when shopping at a store. We first learnt about what Impulse buying was, why people impulse buy, and the consequences that can happen when you impulse buy. We were then tasked to create a brochure that explains things about Impulse Buying, we also were asked to add in the words Impulse and savings. I decided to create a google drawing as I found it the easiest to work with when creating a brochure.

Personally, I like my brochure because it's simple and gives information about Impulse Buying, as the topic isn't that hard. It is also easy to read and isn't too long. I could've done better is I had more time but I'm still happy with the result. There aren't many easy ways to stop impulse buying because everyone does it without realising, most have to take a while to get into because you have to get into the habit of stopping yourself from buying something that looks interesting

What was the last thing you have impulse bought?

Enterprise Studies - FAQ's about Banking

This term for Enterprise Studies we have been learning about accounting. For the past two weeks, we have been learning about banking and how banks can work. So far we have been learning about what account types there are, the benefits, the drawbacks, interest rates, the requirements, and which account could be best for you. After learning about banking we were asked to create a DLO that either explains terms used in banking or write frequently asked questions that people ask when wanting to create a bank account. I chose to write frequently asked questions that people ask when opening or deciding to open a bank account. It was a little hard as I was thinking of questions that people may ask when opening an account and couldn't find many that could fit the question properly on most banking sites.

Personally, I think these questions are what many people ask when opening an account, especially questions about which account is good for them. I would also ask these questions when choosing a bank as well to figure out which bank gives me the most benefits when and after I open my account. I think these questions can also answer questions that might not have gone through your head when deciding to open an account.

What account would you open and why?

Nan's Churros

This year for Market Day we have decided to create Churros. My groupmates are Johanna and Genica as we think we will work well together. The product we have decided to create is Churros. We chose churros because it is trending at the moment and everyone likes them.

Our business name is Nan's Churros. We decided to name it this because mine and Genica's last names can create the word Nan, and Johanna is sometimes called a grandma. We think our name represents us well as all of us our included in it and it is unique to us.

For our product, we are going to oven bake 20cm churros and then lightly glaze them with butter so that the cinnamon sugar will stick. We will then package them in little cups with our logo on them in groups of 3 and wait for customers to choose their dipping sauce for the churros. With our churros, we have decided to have two dips, chocolate and caramel. We are going to do all of this with gloves on for health and safety

We hope you are able to come and buy our Churros.

Business Studies

Who is in your group for running a business?
In my group, I have chosen to work with Genica and hopefully Johanna.  I think we work well together because every time we are in a group we manage to get our work done.

How well did you work together in the team building activity?
In the team-building activity, I think Genica and I worked well together, even though we didn't build the highest tower we didn't fight at all and listened to each other very well. We shared our ideas and tried them all out, even though some of them didn't work. In the end, we quickly just stuffed paper in the base and it stayed up without falling, which we didn't even suspect. We ended up getting third place.

Economics

What are the four factors of productions?
The four factors are Land, Labour, Capital and Entrepreneur. Land is all the natural resources that have come from the Earth. An example of land is an apple. Labour is all the work we humans put into creating something. An example of this is a builder. Capital is the equipment used to create the product, normally bought from other capital business. An example of this is a saw. Entrepreneurs are the people who create the ideas that then earn income from what they have created. An example of this is a business.

The production process is the way that something is being made. For example a house. to make a house you need natural resources like wood, stone, cement etc. then you need labour which is people like builders and architects, you also need entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship in this example is how people build the house. Then you need equipment to make the product which comes under capital. Next, you would build the house which would become the goods or services.

Sam Morgan - Creator of Trade Me

Sam Morgan

Where did Sam Morgan’s interest in buying and selling come from?

Sam Morgan’s Interest of buying and selling came from when he wanted to buy a second hand heater for his draughty apartment. He searched the internet to see if anyone was willing to sell him a heater but found no options on any New Zealand websites. He then realised that no one was willing to sell any cheap enough and decided to create Trade me.

Describe the early days of Trade Me.
At the start Trade Me didn’t really do too much as it only had 5000 people signing up and 200,000 people viewing. He didn’t have enough money to create ads for his sight or to quit his job. He then tried to sell the company on eBay for 1 million dollars but it was then taken off because no bids were placed. After a while he then sold almost half the company to several former deloitte colleagues for $75,000. Luckily he was then able to quit his job and then work full time on his website.

How did Sam Morgan turn Trade Me into a multi-million dollar enterprise?
Sam Morgan turned Trade me into a multi-million dollar business with perseverance. He kept going even when his business didn’t look too well. At the start he thought that he wasn’t going to do well but after he sold part of his company he did much better as he was able to put all of his time and effort into his business.

You have 10 minutes to think of a new website that will be of use to New Zealanders and to your knowledge does not already exist.
A site that tells you if COVID-19 is in your area and what you can do to protect yourself before you get it and if you do get it. You can also get a kit to send to a lab to see if you might have it too.

Describe Peter Jackson’s early films.

Peter Jackson's early films were short movies that included his friends. They were normally simple movies and weren’t the best quality. He first made movies as a hobby and then began very interested in the feeling of creating.

Jackson is described as “one of the most powerful directors in
Hollywood”. What does that mean?

Peter Jackson is called “one the most powerful directors in Hollywood” because of his effect on the community around the world. He is able to give a point to people in his work that most people can understand. He gets his message across, while also making a good movie a lot of people can watch.

Make a list of films that Peter Jackson has been involved in.
The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring, The Lord Of the Rings: The Two Towers, The Lord of The Rings: The Return Of The King, The Hobbit Trilogy, King Kong, Braindead, Bad Taste, The Lovely Bones, They Shall Not Grow Old, Heavenly Creatures, Mortal Engines, The Frighteners, Meet the Feebles, The Adventures of Tintin, District 9, Forgotten Silver and more.

Why do you think he has been successful?
I think that Peter Jackson has become successful because of how he directs his movies. He directs his movies in a way that interests a lot of different people into his work. I personally haven’t watched any Peter Jackson movies because they don’t interest me, but they interest a lot of people around the world. I also think he has been successful because he made his work known, if he never went to the Cannes Film Festival he probably wouldn’t be famous or known for his works.

How does Peter Jackson benefit New Zealand?
Peter Jackson benefits New Zealand by making our country recognised around the world. He also benefits our country by filming some movies that have become famous in New Zealand so New Zealand has become a bigger tourist attraction for that reason.
