Group Music Evaluation

This week for music we were told that we were performing our song. I was happy with my performance because we all performed and we didn't mess up. We were successful because we all practiced a lot and performed it without messing up.Next time I would try to use the left had as well because it would've sounded better.

Christmas Music

The purpose of christmas music is to share the christmas tradition with everyone. They are made for people to enjoy the music and the traditions that come with it. My favourite christmas carol is Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, I like the song because it seems really cheerful and happy. Like every other country, New Zealand has some versions of christmas music. Some of the songs are Summer Wonderland, A New Zealand christmas and more.

Here is a acrostic poem

Constellations

In science we were given the task to create a star map of four constellations that were close together. I chose to make Aquarius, Capricornus, Microscopium and Pisces Austrinus. I chose Aquarius because it is my zodiac sign, I also chose the others because it was close to aquarius. The first thing I did was cut out a cardboard and black piece of paper in the shape of a circle. then i mapped out my constellations with pins and string and secured it with pva glue and let it dry. We then took out the pins, named the stars and one sun. The difference of astronomy and astrology is that astrology is theories that aren't always backed up with evidence. Astronomy is the actual study of space science. people have used star maps as a way of navigation / travel. people who have done this are polynesians. Polynesians have used the southern cross, a constellation to find out where they needed to go.

Here is a photo of my star map

Death Sentences In New Zealand

Death Sentences shouldn't be allowed back into New Zealand's law. This is my opinion because I find it would be the easy way out for a lot of people. People go to jail for as little as trespassing and as big as murder. When people have multiple felonies they could go to court. When they go to court they decide if they are guilty or not and how long they stay there. Depending on how bad your felonies are you could stay there for the rest of your life, which is very long. If we had the death sentence people would get the easy was out and they wouldn't pay for their crime. If someone was also framed and they died, if police found out after they died the real person who did the crime it would be too late. It would be easy for people with huge felonies to get the easy way out of jail time. That's why I think that death sentences shouldn't be allowed back into New Zealand.

Tobacco Banning

Do you think smoking is bad? I think tobacco should be people's decisions to use. This is my opinion because people have choices to make, some benefit them some don't. People choose if they want to smoke, they are also informed of the consequences that can come with smoking. On every label it explains the causes that smoking can give you, some causes are cancer, stokes, heart disease. People can choose if they want to take the consequence or not, the consequence can risk your life though. This is why I think it should be peoples decision to use tobacco.

Impacts of Social Media

Social Media has a negative impact on human relationships. This is my opinion because of the way it impacts people to make irrational decisions. An example is if you see a photo of a famous model or celebrity, you might ask yourself why you don't look or act like that. they might be really buff or skinny so you think that is how you should look. You might stop eating, or starta pushing yourself too far and exhaust yourself. In other words you might set your standards way too high and risk your life to try and look like an idol. It can also cause you to get things you might not want like a tattoo, or a piercing. Those things can cost you a lot of money and it might not turn out how you wished it would, it also might not suit you. Even though an idol might look amazing, that's now how you should set yourself to become. There are a lot of different ways that social media affects people, this is one of the reasons.

Group Performances.

This term for music we are doing group performances. I chose to work with Lily-Ray, Genica and lauren. Lily is playing the ukulele, Lauren is dancing and Genica and I are duetting on the piano. The song we have chosen is a million dreams from The Greatest Showman. We chose this song because we could all mix in our ideas and also play it in harmony.

Here is the song.
I think that A million Dreams is about living your dreams, though you might have to sacrifice some other things to get to your dream. So far we are learning parts of the song that we want to play, Lauren has started with her choreography while Genica and I have sorted out what parts of the song we are playing, Lily has figured out on what she is playing too. The most challenging part is how we are going to combine all our instruments together.

Air Pollution

The sustainability issue I have chosen is air pollution. Some causes of the issue are cars, factories and people. Cars are one of the issues because of gas, whether it be a run down car or a very sporty car they are both bad for the environment. They release smoke, toxins and other gasses because of petrol which go towards the atmosphere, causing our atmosphere to break down and allow more heat inside of Earth. People have tried to solve this issue by creating electric cars. They are run by electricity and work like any other car. An example of this is Tesla. They are an american based car company that sells electric cars that are used in everyday life. The cars are run by batteries that use electricity to run. For as long as 220-310 miles! A disadvantage is that if you overcharge the battery, like any other electronic item the battery will start to drain quicker. Another way to cut down on air pollution is to reduce the use of fossil fuels. Fossil fuels like coal and oil, create gas that breaks down our ozone layer, that means that we have a better chance of getting skin cancer and global warming has a chance to strike even harder.

Tulips

Today for science we were making origami tulips, everyone was making two dimensional tulips while I made a three dimensional one. We were then asked to answer questions for our flowers/plants.

The everyday name for this flower is a Tulip and the scientific name is Tulipa. Tulips are found in Turkey and Central Asia. They are native to both these countries. It is used as decoration for indoors and outdoor.

One part of the flower is the flower, it is used for reproduction and to look pretty. Another part of the plant is the leaves, The leaves are used for photosynthesis, to give colour to the flower. another part of the flower is the stem, that holds the plant together

This is the tutorial if you want to make one.

Microscopes

This week for science we learnt about microscopes. The first thing we did was go to the park to collect some plant and animal samples. It was a fun experience because we got to go out and collect things we found interesting. I didn't collect any living specimens because they would always run away. I decided just to grab some plant samples like grass and leaves to inspect. After that we couldn't use live specimens so we had to use methanol to kill them quickly.

On Thursday we decided to see our specimens under two different microscopes. One was called the dissection microscope. This meant that we could see the "living animals" but it didn't need light to be able to be seen. The other one is called the monocular microscope. this is used for plants like leaves and onions peels but you need sunlight to be able to see it. For the plants, we had to create a slide. A slide is two pieces of thin glass squishing a specimen with iodine to make it easier to see. I looked at a onion peel slice, and a Japanese red sponge. They looked really cool underneath the microscope because you can see it even closer and can also see the cells, here are some photos of them both.

Gymnastics

In gymnastics this term I would be like to be able to learn how to do a back and forward dismount dismount on the parallel bars.

So far I can do the forward dismount, but not the backwards dismount yet.

When I first started the Gymnastics unit I wasn't really happy about it because I didn't really like gymnastics, Now I like it a little bit more because its a fun topic that you have to work towards to be able to do. The first piece of equipment I went on were the Parallel bars. They were a little hard to learn at first but then I practiced more and now I can do a forward dismount on them. I still haven't learnt how to do a backwards dismount but I think next year I will be able to do them.

Here are some photos of me doing the Parallel bars

My First Solo Performance

Last week was the start of our solo performances, it was really nerve racking because it was my first time performing in front of the class. I played Welcome To The Black Parade by My Chemical Romance on the Piano. I chose to play the song because it sounded really good on the piano so that's why I played it. I was happy enough with my performance because I practiced for a long time and felt happy with it.

Rockets To Planters

For the past two weeks for science we have been working on making bottle rockets. We were put into groups of three or four, I was working with Keira and Lorelei. The first thing we did was research about how we should make the fins and cone for the top of the rocket. We decided to make it with paper, and tape it to the rocket. For the fins we used hard cardboard and hot glued them all to the bottle. After we did that we painted it and then we were ready to launch them. We launched them with water pressure which was fun because they went far and water sprayed everywhere. Here is a photo of the rocket

We then created planters by cutting the bottle in half, cutting felt and putting it through the nose of the bottle. We then filled it with rocks, cotton balls and dirt and put the seeds in. after we did that we filled the bottom with water and then we were done. Here is a diagram of the bottle.

UPDATE:

So far the seeds have sprouted and it's only been 10 days! the planter works and it looks cool too. the sprouting only seems to be a little but its still really good, it means that the plant can further grow.

UPDATE: So far the seeds have grown even further, they also grew roots, Radishes haven't grown yet which means it has to grow more.

UPDATE #3: The leaves have grown even further but since we broke the roots from trying earlier, so the plant died and now we don't have radishes,

My Unique Organism - Cozaryious

For Science we were asked to create a unique organism that never existed. We were asked to name it, give a description of the habitat, Abiotic (Non living things) and Biotic (Living things) factors. I decided to name mine Cozaryious or Janiel Reavey. It lives in a waterfall beachey area on Earth. It slides around to find food and liquid to survive. It eats Water and Drinks Bananas. The abiotic factors are water sand, light from the sun, Rocks, and grass. The Biotic factors are Snails, Otters, Banana Trees, Trees, and the other Cozaryious. Here is a photo of Cozaryious.

My First Solo Performance

For Music we were asked to choose a song and instrument to perform in front of the class as out assessment. I chose to play the piano because it seemed the most natural for me to do and it was easy. For my song I chose welcome to the black parade by My Chemical Romance. I chose the song because it sounded good and it wasn't too hard to learn on the piano.

The song is about how death can come in the form of your most powerful memory so then it creates the title the black parade, the memory is where the man is going to a parade with his father. I am nervous about performing because i'm not that confident to do many things like playing something in front of a class. The hardest part of the song is when you have to play a little quicker and move your hand more near the start.

The Lion King Remake, The Giraffe Kings

The giraffe was up on a tree, It was slowly slipping as lions nipped at its tail, teasing the poor animal. Suddenly the giraffe had fallen, right into a lion's mouth, its neck torn apart from the multiple sharp knives clawing at his body. “Long live the king!” the lions roared, you could see Girafasa, the now dead giraffe’s looking for his child, Gimba. Alas, you could see Gimba watching him being eaten. Suddenly the title of the movie came up and everyone was piling out of the movie theatres. I was in tears because of the build up towards a giraffe’s death. I started wondering if gimba was supposed to be king, after all the best remake of The Lion king had just came out. I walked out of the pitch black room and towards my friends, who were standing near a bench that was painted a rusty black. They were also teary eyed, discussing how good the movie was. After the live action version of the lion king, Disney made three more spin-offs of the movie and changed the animals, endings and plot. There was the Monkey Leader, The Hippo Mother and Giraffe King. By far Giraffe king was the best. We had all walked out of the rundown movie theatres and piled into Carson, my friends car. It was around two in the morning when I had passed out by exhaustion. All I Was dreaming about was different endings for the movie, thinking that Girafasa was still alive and gimba was happy.

Beans Cause Fires

Prompt -

Beans Cause Fires

I didn’t know how this happened, I was only gone for an hour. The house was set ablaze and the ladder was broken. How can a pot of beans catch fire so easily. I walked over to my brother Julio and started to yell at him, after all he was the cause.

“I didn’t mean to, I just needed to go to the store for Nachos. I was going to make you some for your birthday, if only I turned it off” he had said.

I just nodded, hugged him and went to the police to tell them what had happened.I also told them how this house was really concerning, as it was practically floating other than the electrical lines and ladder that was attached to it.

After the house had been extinguished and placed on the ground mysteriously the firefighters walked in to see the damage. To my utter surprise and concern the inside was fine, other than the stove, that was fried. I kept thinking about how beans were the cause of it all, and I started laughing. I checked the pot and Cringed, the beans were charred and stuck to the bottom of the pot, it looked like charcoal had been beanified into mushy beans

“I’m never using that pot ever again.” I muttered. I walked back outside and told the firefighters and police that the inside of the house was completely fine, other than the stove. My brother was really embarrassed that the cause of this was Because of beans.

Percy Jackson - Diary Entry

Diary Entry
Today was the day I was kicked out of school, again, 5th grade is really hard when you don't have any friends. It wasn’t my fault though, the other kids were out for me. They always blamed me for things i never did. For example, they always pushed the fire alarm in the hallways and I was blamed for it when the teachers saw I never did it.

The last straw for the school was when I was reading a random book about Greek mythology, I had put it down because the teacher had called me so they attacked. They tore the pages out and wrote “percy was here” on all of them, they then proceeded to fling the pages everywhere. The teacher didn’t notice though, he never did. We had walked into the room and we both saw the damage that was done. He immediately called me out, and forced me to go to the principal,

As I was about to walk past everyone I had tripped. Everyone laughed at me, even the teacher, I looked up and saw Michae, one of the kids that hated me, laughing at me after he tripped me. I didn’t even know what happened next, I guess I lashed out and punched him, it wasn’t that hard though. My hand didn’t even have a bruise, Michae on the other hand was knocked out with a greyish bruise forming on his eye. I was definitely being expelled, no one would believe me if I didn’t plead guilty.

I remembered being dragged to the principal's office and being told that I should be glad I'm going, I didn’t believe it though. The principal kicked me out quickly and now I'm here, writing in this stupid book to help my anger issues for the next school, if there ever is one. All I know is that mum’s not going to be happy today when she sees me.
