Matariki

Today for reading I finished watching another video explaining matariki. I finished reading the article and I now know that matariki has a brother called Puanga-nui-a-rangi. I also learnt that Matariki is to say goodbye to the dead and loved ones and saw hello to new beginnings. We were asked to write what we now know about matariki. Here are some of my explanations.

What is Matariki?

Matariki is the sign of the Maori new year. It starts in winter, Matariki can end whenever the tribe wants because of its beliefs and how long they want to celebrate. There are 9 stars that all help in matariki, there are a mother, the uncle and the seven sisters. The seven sisters are Tupu-a-nuku,Tupu-a-rangi, Waiti & waiata whom are twins, Waipuna a rangi and Ururangi. The other two stars are matariki herself and her brother Puanga-nui-a-rangi.

So far I think I am doing well so far but I might have some trouble later

Matariki

This week for reading we are reading about Matariki. Matariki is the new year thats starts in winter and is about Matariki and her 7 daughters. Each of the daughters have a different job. for example Ururangi is the youngest sister and the sister who makes everyone have fun. For the week we have to make blog posts everyday until friday showing what we have completed each day

Today I finished what I know about Matariki and I also started reading about Matariki. I also started watching a video of more information about Matariki.

Today I think I started well because I started reading the story, I started watching the video and I know all the tasks I have to do by the end of the week.

Are you using the internet right?

For the past few weeks for cybersmart we have been learning about internet safety and how to be safe on the internet. I was working with Wajihah and Myka for this project. The first thing we did was make a plan on what we were using, how many lessons it would take, the materials, the message, and how the end product would look like. Next we created the powtoon and started finalising the slideshow. Finally we recorded our voices and added them in. We then edited the slideshow and posted it to the internet for everyone to see.

Reading - SVA Thoughts

What is the SVA?

The SVA is a student organisation to stop liquefaction from the earthquakes. It also stands for the Student Volunteer Army. They have many projects that they are completing  and have completed over the past years. 

What do the SVA do?

They help people who are in need and help aid them with problems they have and are facing after all the earthquakes and supply them with food, water and a place to stay.

Why do they help?
Sam Johnson started the organisation with about 6 people and then after a short amount of time he had about 7000-8000 members in his organisation.

MeMe & Me - Reading

MeMe & Me

I think the story is about Nina and her meme, she had bought a new phone so she wouldn’t be the last person to have a phone in her class. When she had the phone she had taken a photo of her fishtail braid and posted it on the internet, her friend Cass had replied how she had added a filter when she hadn’t, she then had a text message from herself. She was confused why and looked at the text message which explained who the text was from, the text was from someone named MeMe. MeMe looked exactly like Nina which was a little creepy but they had started talking to each other and became friends. After a few weeks of talking they started calling each other. As friends they always put each other in a good mood, one day when they were talking Nina’s phone died and she had to wait for her phone to charge, that's when Nina saw MeMe’s real self.

MeMe had gotten angry with Nina for not talking to her and started telling Nina that she was a bad friend and other things that made her feel sad and lonely. Nina then had a dream that she was trapped in her phone and MeMe was playing as her, she then woke up and cut her hair so she wouldn’t have MeMe look like her. She also broke her sim card and bought a new one so MeMe wouldn’t find her again, she made a friend named Ruby who had to share her phone with her siblings.

Message: Don’t talk to strangers because they could be stalkers or hackers.

Dancing

For the past two weeks we have been learning a dance that Miss Beer made up from the song finesse. so far the moves are somewhat easy and we have all learnt them but most of us are getting stagefright even though no one is watching us. I like some of the moves because they are easy and most people are able to do. I find it challenging to keep up with the beat because some of the moves have to be practised quickly. we are performing in 3 more weeks so i think we can get everything ready for the play and the dance completed and perfected.
