Popart

As we finish making out masterpieces the art exhibition is coming closer. This week for our art kete we were asked to make a four square photo of a famous cartoon character. I decided to draw blossom, from the power puff girls. The first thing we had to to was find an instructional video on how to to make the character. After wards we were told to copy the photo three times and then colour them in different colours. My finished product is good and I am very proud of it.

I hope you like my art.

Popart

This term for kete we have been learning about art. We were asked to choose what we wanted to do for the term that we were interested in. I had chosen Pop art that was created by Andy Warhol. Pop art is the short term for 'Popular Art'. Andy Warhol used famous celebrities and famous products and drew them in new styles.

For Pop art we were asked to create a digital and paper copy of a name tag that looks like pop art. Here are my digital and paper copy of my name tags.

I honestly really like pop art because it is made to stand out and it also looks really cool. I really want to learn how to make the proportion right with the paper copy name tag. I would like to create the pop art that shows the different colours of a human being with the squares. I am really looking forward to creating more.

Skittles Experiment

Method:

1. 1/2 fill a petri dish with water

2. Carefully place 4 different coloured skittles evenly spaced around the outside of the petri dish.

Hypothesis: I think that the water will dilute the Skittles and the colouring will start to come towards the middle.

Scientific Reasoning:
The skittles are made of sugar and food colouring. As the Sugar dissolves the food colouring moves over the water with sugar  until it cannot move any further because of the other colours

1.What questions arose in your mind as you did the activity?
How does this work?
Why do the skittles dilute from water?

2. what could you do to see if your ideas are correct?
 Test it out.

Conclusion:
The water diluted the skittles and the colour started coming out and spreading.

Homework Poem

This term for homework 7ld have been doing our homework for sustainability. One of the challenges were that we had to make a couplet about sustainability, for the task we had to make it a couplet and put it on a slideshow, then we had decorate it to make the standards of our rubric.

This whole slideshow took me about three days to complete and decorate. I am really proud of this because the couplet took me four hours and I did it by myself with no ones help. Normally I would need a lot of inspiration but this time I just needed to look at some words and I knew what to do.

So far I think I have completed the task very well and think that Whaea Mel does too. I have a little bit to fix up but then it will be complete. I hope you like my couplet and I hope to post more poems. tell me what you think of my slideshow in the comment and I will try to reply to your questions.

Poems

This Term 7ld have been learning about Poetry. So far We have have four poems, Two of them being Haiku Poems. We were told to put them on a slideshow and decorate them so that if anyone else saw them than it would do nice. We were also asked to post one of our poems on our blogs. I chose my Couplet because I am really proud of it and it would be fun to decorate. A couplet is two sentences with the last words rhyming
My Couplet
So far I am really happy with my poem and really hope you do too. Feel free to leave your comments on what you think.

Sunken Forest

LO: To listen for enjoyment.

Last term Whaea Mel started reading us a story called the Sunken forest. The story is about a boy who is called Matt, he was accused for stealing money off an old lady and is sent to a year 9 camp instead of his camp. His dad is in jail for a crime that he did so he has to live with his grandma. The authors name is Des Hunt. He is a New Zealand writer who has written books in many different genres.

The story is really interesting as it is based on new zealand locations. We have almost finished the book and it's gotten really interesting, sad and happy. We have had many theories but some of them haven't been very close to what actually happens. There are three parts to the book, part 1, part 2 and part 3.

I hope to buy some books from Des Hunt because his stories are very interesting.

Here is the cover of the book

Orana Wildlife Park Visit

On Monday the junior block (Year seven & eights) went to Orana Wildlife Park for our kete, Which is Well being. We didn't need to pay because the Zoofari school program let us go for free. When we got there we were put into seven groups. They were W1, W2,W3,W4, E1,E2 and E3. I was in E1. We had teachers who worked at Orana Park so we had a lady called Sarah. She was really nice and helpful.

The first thing we saw were the Alpine Kea's. they were really cool to look at. Then we saw the Kiwis then so on. The animals we saw were the Alpine Kea, the Kiwi, Lions, Tigers, Ruffed Lemurs, Gorillas and many more.

My favourite animals were the Giraffe, Tiger, Cheetah, and Lions.

Overall I really enjoyed my day at Orana park. I hope I can go again with my family to see the Gorillas. Here are are a few photos of the giraffe, Meerkat and gorilla.

Homework.

These few weeks Whaea Mel gave us our terms worth of homework. we had nine different tasks to do for each week. For the first week I did a mindmup challenge with was to explain how my family manages stress.

The second week I made a alternative piece of candy that had no sugar. It is called Watermelon and Strawberry Lychee Drops. We were asked to explain what our inspiration was.

This week I was doing doing the sleeping chart. For the sleeping chart you have to record you sleeping times and see which one is the best. I haven't finished it yet but once I have I will decorate it and make it look good.

Here are the finished and almost finished pieces of work I have completed.

I hope you enjoyed looking at my homework because I am very proud of it. Feel free to comment what you think about my homework.

Wellbeing

This Term for kete 7ld are learning about well being. for the first week of school we had to make a poster about what a healthy person would look like. We had to work with partners so I went with Phillip and Wajihah. It took us a while to finish the well being poster but we finished it in a matter of time. Here is the poster in all its glory

Working in a group is a little hard for me because I normally work alone but I did help a lot with this.

I hope you enjoy our well being poster. Feel free to post your feedback on what you think.

Science

Hands on fire

Aim: I want to Safely be able to set myself on Fire.

Hypothesis: I think the hypothesis is that when your hands are lit on fire it will burn and start to sting.

Equipment:1.Water
2.Soap (Detergent)
3.Lighter
4.Safety Glasses
5.Lab Coat

Method
1.Be SAFE.
2.Wet your hands, Wrists and forearms.
3.Grab a scoop of bubbles.
4.Hold the bubbles in front of your face, as far away from you as you can. Lock your elbows.

5. To get rid of the fire, SLOWLY move your hands apart.

6. DO NOT DROP YOUR HANDS BELOW YOUR EYE LEVEL because the fire goes up and you will set yourself on fire.

Results:
The results are that when you set someones hands on fire the hands cause a big fire and that results to you putting your hands down. It will also hurt and could cause you have burnt hands

Conclusion:
In conclusion setting your hands on fire is dangerous but fun. you

Science

Today for science we learnt how to use the bunsen burner by ourselves. we had to set the flames in different colours to complete our task. We had to work in pairs of three but there would of been one person alone so Genica went went with Natalia while I went with Ella. It was really fun to use the bunsen burners because Last year we were allowed to come and see what Hornby High could offer to us and we used them and changed the flames colours to Green, Blue, Yellow or Red. While completing the checklist that we had to tick off while using the bunsen burner Mr Palmer signed our Bunsen Burner Licences so we could use the bunsen burners with no problem. Here is the checklist and my Bunsen burner Licence.

Bunsen Burner Checklist.
Rules:
1. The location of the lab fire extinguisher and safety blanket is known.
2. Safety Glasses were worn
3.Long hair was tied back and loose items of clothing tucked away.
4.The bunsen Burner was placed on a heat resistance surface
5. The bunsen burner is not too close to the edge of the desk.
6.The burner was connected to the gas tap correctly.
7.The rubber tubing was checked for cracks or leaks.
8.The air hole on the bunsen burner was closed before lighting
9.The splint was lit before the gas was turned on.
10. The splint was positioned correctly while the gas was turned on.

Gif Making.

A few weeks ago Whaea Mel showed us a website called Giphy. Giphy is a website that lets you make Gifs like this one. I felt like Giphy was hard to use and it was. I had to use videos instead of photo's to make my gif so I went on another website.
A gif is a animated video like photo that can explain something or just is for fun. When I was making my first gif I needed help so I looked if there were any videos on how to make a gif. I looked on some blogs until I found a useful video to help me. It also helped because this person was in my class. The first thing I did was make a slide show for the gifs I would be making. Then I spelled the words hello as my first gif. After I made some more slides then deleted the words until it was the letter I wanted it to be. I did that until I finished the words 'hello'. I downloaded them with the file and download as feature. I then went on this website called Animated Gif Maker and started to put my downloaded images down to make the Gif. After that I ordered them the way I wanted it to be and made the Gif by clicking 'create animation.' here are a few of the Gifs I made in a few minutes.

Reflection:

Overall I think that making Gifs are fun. They do take time but once you are done you will feel proud of what you have done. I think with time I could be an expert on Gifs and teach everyone else in my class how to make gifs. If you want to learn how to make gifs then the links above will help you. Please comment what you think about this site and what you think about my gifs I made.

The Library

This week 7ld had a visit to the school's library. we were asked to choose a book that was chapter length and in our choice. I had chose a book called Earth Fall. Earth fall is made by the author Mark Walden. Earth fall was about a boy named Sam who had just survived a invasion by something called the VoidBorn, who were aliens. His father, Daniel Shaw or Andrew Riley used to work for the company to take over the world before he found out what was happening. Daniel implanted a device into Sam's brain to make sure that he couldn't become a Sleeper. A sleeper was a human being that the VoidBorn had put to sleep when they were taking over the world. I haven't quite finished the book but I have enjoyed it this far. The length of the book is about 346 pages long.  Here is the book title and the author

Overall I think this book is very interesting and I hope to read more of this books series. I recommend this for people who love action and chapter books. I hope you enjoy looking at this book and this post. Feel free to comment on what you think about this book.

My Audience

We are learning to create a positive digital footprint.

We often share personal information when we are online. The people we share with could be our friends and family or people we don't know. We need to make smart decisions about what personal information we share online.

Newslea Reading!

These past two weeks for reading 7LD have been reading off this site called Newslea. Newslea is a reading website that everyone can use for free. For Newslea the articles I read was ‘What makes a planet Habitable’ and ‘The History of Earth Day’. While reading we had to do a quiz, we had 4 questions to answer relating to the article. I got 3 questions for the Habitable planet and for the Earth Day I had 0 out of 4. There is also a write feature which you just write what the teacher had assigned to you. One of my friends had 4 out of 4, we were both surprised at her score. Here are some photos on Newslea and my score.

Overall I like Newslea a lot and I can read whenever I like. You should make an account if you like reading too.  I hoped you enjoy looking at Newslea and this post, please feel free to comment!
