This term we have been learning about energy. One of our experiments were about cup telephones. The first thing we did was cut some string and tie the ends so then it would fit in the cup. Then we were given a cup to colour in with ink markers. I decided to make mine a gradient with purple and blue. I then added black dots in the middle and then connected my cup with Ashanti's. We tried out the telephone cups and they worked, we just had to pull the string.
Aim: To make a Cup Telephone
Equipment:
Styrofoam Cup
String
Colouring pens
Method:
1. Cut a long piece of string and tie the ends in a double knot.
2. Cut a little hole in the bottom of the styrofoam cup and put the string inside.
3. Decorate the cup
4. pull the string so then it is tight
5. You can try it out.
It was a really fun experiment to do because it was fun to see what we could say to each other.

2. The air turned black all around me
“Help me! Please” a voice had cried out, it had seemed to be behind me, I closed my eyes and turned around. Suddenly the air turned warm, almost as if i was in a sunny forest. The wind was brushing against my face as I opened my eyes. “Hello?” I called out, I was hoping that the person would reply to me so then I could find out where I was. I didn’t get a reply but I could hear movement around me. Suddenly The air turned black all around me and I was at a cave. I could hear pained noises, as if someone was shot. I cautiously started to walk inside. The air felt musky, blood and copper making its way towards my nose. I could hear someone panting in the cave. As i walked further inside the cave I saw that there were a bunch of bullets covered in blood. I hoped it wasn’t real blood I turned left in the cave and saw a boy, no older than me sitting on the walls of the cave. He looked to be in bad shape, I looked at his stomach to see a deep gash with blood protruding out like a fountain, I looked closer and saw a bullet suck in his stomach. I look back at his face to see him, open eyed and staring at me. “Who are you?” I asked. I didn’t know who he was but he seemed to be in a lot of trouble. He didn’t reply but seemed to be losing a lot of blood. I quickly ran to him, grabbed two sticks and ripped some of my shirt to reduce the blood pouring out of him. I realised that he was going to lose conscious soon so I had to act fast. “ I’m going to get the bullet out of your chest before your wound gets infected.” I say, he looks at me and nods. I grab the sticks and try to open his wound so then I could get the bullet out. He groans as soon as I put the sticks in place. I quickly stick my hand into the wound and try to get the bullet out.

English - Writing A Common Thing As Something Unknown
Word: Heat pump
As I opened the door I felt a warm breeze flowing towards me, basking me in the warmth that was inside my apartment, I had never felt warmth inside my apartment before. I had always came home to antarctica almost inside my house. I could hear a noise in the living room telling me that something was on. I walk in to see what was causing the noise, a machine at the top of my ceiling whirring away and creating what was now the warm air inside the apartment. I didn't know how the machine got there, and how it was on but I was so relieved that I was finally able to sleep comfortably without having to wear a entire wardrobe. I walked to the kitchen and saw a note from the landlord telling me that she hired an electricity company to install what they call a heat pump into all the apartments without me paying anything for the rest of the month. I didn't like the noise the machine made, or how I would turn it off and on but I was still glad that I finally had heat inside my house. The note also said that the gadget could also turn cold, so if it got too hot in the summer I would have something to keep me cool if I couldn't survive the temperatures that summer brought when it arrived.

Prompt Writing
Prompts:
8. Footsteps slowly creaked on every step of the stairs. The bedroom door handle turned slowly.
10. My hair stood on end, a shiver raced down my spine and a lump came to my throat. It was him...
1. I didn’t mean to kill her.
I ran into the room hoping he didn’t come after me, after all there were seven other people in the mansion. I ran around a corner and bumped into a door. The door was brown, almost mahogany coloured and polished, unlike anything in this old mansion. I turned the gold knob and pushed the door open, too my luck it was open. I ran inside, turns out it was a bedroom. I admired the baby blue wallpaper that was still on the wall, the white trim looking brand new. There was no bed inside, only a white crib with white bedding and a teddy bear, it looked like the one I owned at home, light brown, missing a black beady eye and a blue bowtie. I saw a closet and opened the door, as I opened it I heard someone coming up the stairs. Footsteps slowly creaked on every step of the stairs. The bedroom door handle turned slowly. My hair stood on end, a shiver raced down my spine and a lump came to my throat. It was him. The boy who had just murdered my sister, my brother Daniel. His white top was now splattered with crimson red blood, it almost looked like watercolour paint. His jeans were cut, you could see a deep gash in his knee. The gas was gushing out blood like a drink dispenser. “ I didn’t mean to kill her”. He whispered. I could see a knife in his hand, so I slowly backed away. I looked behind me into the closet, there was nothing but a door. I could fit inside of it but I would have to make a distraction to have enough time to get in and run. I looked beside me and saw a black chinese ring dagger. I grabbed it without Daniel noticing and flung it at the deer paining behind him, I actually liked that paining but either I die or that painting gets a knife into it. The glass protecting the paining shattered and Daniel fell to the floor, trying not to get any shards in his eyes. I quickly ran towards the closed, grabbing a chair on the way to barricade the door with. I ran into the door and hoped that the door was open, to my surprise it was. I quickly ran in, closed the door, barricaded the door with the chair and sat down. Would I ever get out of this house alive?

Beeswax Wraps
For the past week in textiles we have been learning how to make beeswax wraps, it was a really fun thing to make and I would definitely make it again. The first thing we did was figure out where the beeswax came from, I learnt that bees have these gill like things on their abdomen that excuit out the wax. It took us some time to actually make it because there was a lot of people and there was only one pair of scissors. We were then asked to create a poster which showed the instructions on how to make the beeswax wraps, here is what I made.
Government
This week for Social Studies we are now learning about government. A Government is a person or a group of people who make official decisions for a country, state, or area. New Zealand has a democratic government. By voting we give the right to decide on things like Wars, Laws, Taxes and Treaties. The government's job is to protect the citizens in their county, state or area. Citizens vote peacefully on who they want to be the government. in return the government gives protection. citizens also give power to the government which gives them the power to make changes in the county. We pay taxes because it gives money to the government to make changes in our country. The government spends our tax money towards making more schools, making more roads, and making buildings that can help profit our country. The government makes laws to keep its citizens safe, they also make laws so then the citizens have rules to follow to keep everyone safe. Some laws can be as small as parking in certain areas to you must be who knows how old to drink or to drive a car. We give the power to let the government to make treaties with other countries to be able to buy and import things from countries such as japan and america. We give them the right to send soldiers to war if it ever happens.
Science - Dry Ice
This week for science we worked with dry ice to see what sublimation is. Sublimation is when a solid goes straight to a gas without going into a liquid. I would love to do this again because it was cool seeing it bubble even though it is ice.
Equipment:
Beaker
Tongs
Dry Ice
Warm Water
Method:
1. Fill your beaker with warm water, fill it up to around 50mL
2.Put the dry ice in the water with tongs
3. See what happens
It was a really fun experiment because I've never used dry ice, I've seen some experiments where they do different things with it but this was still cool. It was weird seeing vapour come out of water that was cooling down very quickly but it was still cool.

language Features - Hyperbole
A Hyperbole is a use of over exaggeration that shouldn't be taken literally, It's also used to make you understand a little more about how someone could be feeling. For example "I'm so hungry I could eat a cow." You can't physically eat a cow but you are exaggerating that you will, you're just saying that you are really hungry. When a writer uses hyperbole they want you to see how someone might be feeling. A writer might use hyperbole because they want you to imagine how a character might feel

An exaggeration
|
I've told her that a million times!
|
I'm so hungry I could eat a Tyrannosaurus rex
|
She’s told that story a billion times, yet she keeps repeating it every day.
|
Some examples from the internet are
- I told you to clean your room a billion times!
- His brain is smaller than a pea
