Jews In Nazi Germany

Since school has closed down due to COVID-19 we have transitioned to the school holidays, before that we were asked to do one last task for social studies. We were asked to create a presentation on a group of people who's Human rights have been violated, I chose to learn about Jews in Nazi Germany. I chose this because I thought it would be in interesting as I don't really know much about the holocaust and I wanted to know more. We were told that we had to research about them and answer some questions about them that would be in our final presentation. it didn't really take a long time to research but it was hard to put it into words that didn't seem like it was copied. This is my final copy of the presentation, I hope you enjoy it.

Mirror Mirror

Mirror Mirror

“ I think I look pretty average today, the grey hoodie works well with the headband I’m wearing. Though the purple butterfly doesn’t quite match the metallic gold the headband is made with.”

“It could work if you weren’t wearing those green pants, you would look like you dressed up in the dark if you kept them on.”

“What the hell? When could you start speaking? How can you speak? Also I know, I'm rushing here.”

“ I always could, I just didn’t feel like my opinion was needed at the time. Now it does, please change those hideous pants into those new black pants. You want to look your best for this friends hangout.”

“I feel like I’m getting pranked, you sound too much like my older sister Justine, I mean she is coming over for the holidays so I wouldn’t expect her to try and surprise me by doing this.”

“Trust me I’m not your sister, I didn’t even notice you had another sister, you never talked about her around me. Also change your pants please, I don’t want you to become a fashion fail.”

“I know I’m going to do that now, don’t rush me too much. I still don’t believe you though, it’s too much of a coincidence . I still need to figure out what shoes to wear with this. Now can you help me?”

“Wear the white off white sneakers, also touch up your hair, you don’t want everyone to know you were in a rush. Now go before you're late.”

“Alright alright, I’m going. We’ll have a chat after this about your ability to talk, I still don’t believe that's you. You sound a lot like Justine, and the fact that I’m the only one in my family unable to know when she’s coming is too suspicious.”

“Alright alright, just go to your hangout and have fun. We can talk about this later when you aren’t late now go”

Self Directed Learning Goal

This week my goal is still the same as the last few weeks. I had chosen the goal "Ask for feedback when I am done." I had said that I would've done this by asking someone to proofread my work when I think I have finished. I now am going to ask my classmates and friends to give me their feedback on my work on my blog, as everyone goes onto each other's blogs all the time. I still am working towards this goal because I haven't really asked anyone for feedback still, I keep forgetting. Hopefully I can achieve this goal before the end of the term.

Music - Pharrell Williams

This week for music we were asked to read a book and then write about the artist or book we chose. I chose Pharrell Wiliams. The book gave a simple summary about their lives. I learnt that Pharrell Williams is a song producer who has created songs for a bunch of different artists. He loved skateboarding too. When he was younger he had started a group called the Neptunes, they started to help make music with other bands and singers. They wrote many famous songs, Pharrell was also in another band but it wasn't as popular as the Neptunes. In 2013 he had helped write two songs for other musicians, they became big hits. He also wrote and performed the song Happy which went into the movie Despicable me 2.  In 2014 he released his own album, he also became the coach for The Voice.

Child Soldiers

For the past week for social studies we were given the task to choose something that was happening to kids around that Involved labour. I chose to do child soldiers. It look awhile to figure out what questions to ask but I was able to figure out what to write and how to add to them. I decided to create a piktochart with all my information and then I was able to finish it. This is my finished product.

Why is research important?Research is important because you need to get information from more than one site, you can get multiple opinions and you can go for the one that is mainly used and get your point across with more detail. It's also important because there might not be enough sites that can give you the right information, by looking at a lot you can find out what information is real and what isn't real.

Inside A Bag 2

 I don’t know where the pole came from but I was guessing that It was from the car. I immediately felt like throwing up, the smell of copper making me cringe. I successfully stopped myself from heaving out my organs for the world to see, not looking down to see the mess trying to flow outside. I thought I would pass out but instead I started to feel better, the pole still sticking out of my body. Miraculously my flesh started to bind towards each other, unable to complete itself due to the pole. I then decided to ‘man up’ and pull the pole out of my body, without looking I grabbed the pole, and started pushing it backwards. Nothing happened so I decided to take a different approach. I braced myself for impact, pushed myself back and tried to push the pole out.

Inside A Bag 1

I woke up to a loud horn blaring around me. I tried to stand up but to my dismay I was restricted to do so. I pushed my arms forward to feel what I was constricted in but could only feel fabric. I then pushed my arms forward to feel anything else, to my surprise there seemed to be a zip that was closed shut. I tried prying it open with my fingers but it didn’t budge. By the time that I finished trying I was puffed, I soon realised that air wasn’t available. I then had the idea of kicking the zip to see if forcing it open would work, I maneuvered my body so that I was able to hit the zip and kicked. Surprisingly the zip snapped open and I flew with the bag back onto the ground.

I breathed heavily, regaining what air I wasn’t able to get in the bag and looked up to see what looked like a small city in front of me. I realised that It was pitch black so I couldn’t really see where I was. I then got up and started walking towards the large landscape buildings. I was thinking about how I got into the bag but soon realised I couldn’t remember anything, even my own name. I saw what seemed to be a green piece of paper lying on the ground, I leaned down to grab it and started inspecting it to see if it could give me any information. I noticed that it said a number and had a face of a very old looking man. I pushed paper into my pocket and started looking for anything that was lit up, maybe it could tell me where I was and why I was here.

Suddenly, I heard a screeching noise and turned around to see a car crash straight into me, propelling my body into what seemed to be a building. I Couldn’t feel anything at first, adrenalin kicked into my body making it unable to feel the pain. After a hot minute I felt a searing pain into my abdomen making it unable for me to move, not that I could anyways, my body was stuck between the car and a building made of what could be steel. I looked down to see a metal pole with my crimson blood sticking towards it, dripping down in thick globs.

The Hunter Swoop 1

The Hunter Swoop

Top left corner -  The top left corner of the photo it shows the sky. The sky is a neutral blue and also holds some clouds near it. Some clouds are translucent, some are completely opaque. some are transparent but are also covered with other clouds.

Top Right corner - Like the top left corner, the top right corner of the photo also shows the sky. the sky is also a neutral blue but there aren't as many opaque clouds covering the sky, instead the clouds are translucent. On this side snowy mountains are more noticeable and are also more detailed to understand where the mountain starts and ends.

Bottom of the image - Damp roads are going down towards new plains, the repainted yellow marks making it unable for cars to drive onto the other lane.

Center of the image - A snowshoe rabbit narrowly misses a white car passing him as he runs across onto the road, lucky to survive what could've been a fatal run in with death.

Photo I was describing:
-
Five Descriptive words - Dull, Erie, Misty, Dark, lifeless

Top Left Corner - Colourless trees line the misty forest as the fallen leaves dance across the lifeless floor. The trees divide into an opening, a path for its willing victims.

Top Right Corner - More dead trees line the floor and also leave an opening for the path, some branches pulled off to see blood of the now dead beings that once had lived.

Bottom of the image - Ink covers the polluted lake as lively leaves fall in, corrupting the innocence once held by those leaves

Center of the image - The once alive forest now lies dead as the source of the light has left to be somewhere else. The forest, betrayed leads victims to its inviting walls to only trap them in its grasp, never letting them leave.

Photo I was describing:
-
Top Left Corner - Bricks surround the base of the door to act as a wall. Wood lines up to act as a barrier, holding something precious inside.

Top Right Corner - Wood lines the doors in a vertical pattern, nails piecing the wood together. Metal clasps hang onto the base for someone to be able to open.

Bottom of the Image - A man in a black suit is knocking on the doors, trying to break in. His slick black hair shaking as he continues to bang on the door.

Center of the image - The door sensing he isn't worthy, shuts the greedy man out. The man continues to shut him out, protecting the treasure the man is fighting to get out.

Photo I was describing:
On a card in real life, can't actually find the real photo.

Sam Morgan - Creator of Trade Me

Sam Morgan

Where did Sam Morgan’s interest in buying and selling come from?

Sam Morgan’s Interest of buying and selling came from when he wanted to buy a second hand heater for his draughty apartment. He searched the internet to see if anyone was willing to sell him a heater but found no options on any New Zealand websites. He then realised that no one was willing to sell any cheap enough and decided to create Trade me.

Describe the early days of Trade Me.
At the start Trade Me didn’t really do too much as it only had 5000 people signing up and 200,000 people viewing. He didn’t have enough money to create ads for his sight or to quit his job. He then tried to sell the company on eBay for 1 million dollars but it was then taken off because no bids were placed. After a while he then sold almost half the company to several former deloitte colleagues for $75,000. Luckily he was then able to quit his job and then work full time on his website.

How did Sam Morgan turn Trade Me into a multi-million dollar enterprise?
Sam Morgan turned Trade me into a multi-million dollar business with perseverance. He kept going even when his business didn’t look too well. At the start he thought that he wasn’t going to do well but after he sold part of his company he did much better as he was able to put all of his time and effort into his business.

You have 10 minutes to think of a new website that will be of use to New Zealanders and to your knowledge does not already exist.
A site that tells you if COVID-19 is in your area and what you can do to protect yourself before you get it and if you do get it. You can also get a kit to send to a lab to see if you might have it too.

Peter Jackson

Peter Jackson

Describe Peter Jackson’s early films.

Peter Jackson's early films were short movies that included his friends. They were normally simple movies and weren’t the best quality. He first made movies as a hobby and then began very interested in the feeling of creating.

Jackson is described as “one of the most powerful directors in
Hollywood”. What does that mean?

Peter Jackson is called “one the most powerful directors in Hollywood” because of his effect on the community around the world. He is able to give a point to people in his work that most people can understand. He gets his message across, while also making a good movie a lot of people can watch.

Make a list of films that Peter Jackson has been involved in.
The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring, The Lord Of the Rings: The Two Towers, The Lord of The Rings: The Return Of The King, The Hobbit Trilogy, King Kong, Braindead, Bad Taste, The Lovely Bones, They Shall Not Grow Old, Heavenly Creatures, Mortal Engines, The Frighteners, Meet the Feebles, The Adventures of Tintin, District 9, Forgotten Silver and more.

Why do you think he has been successful?
I think that Peter Jackson has become successful because of how he directs his movies. He directs his movies in a way that interests a lot of different people into his work. I personally haven’t watched any Peter Jackson movies because they don’t interest me, but they interest a lot of people around the world. I also think he has been successful because he made his work known, if he never went to the Cannes Film Festival he probably wouldn’t be famous or known for his works.

How does Peter Jackson benefit New Zealand?
Peter Jackson benefits New Zealand by making our country recognised around the world. He also benefits our country by filming some movies that have become famous in New Zealand so New Zealand has become a bigger tourist attraction for that reason.

Smoking

What does smoking do to your body?

When you start smoking things start happening immediately, over 5000 chemical substances enter your body and tissue. Tar, a black substance that comes off of smoke goes into your mouth and into your body. When it goes in your mouth it sticks to your gums and teeth, it then starts to turn your teeth black. After a while the tar soon starts to stick into your teeth and start decaying the gum and enamel so that teeth start to fall off. It also starts to damage the nerve ends in your nose so that you won’t be able to smell as well as you used to.

 When smoke goes to your lungs it  can increase the likelihood of infections,chronic diseases. Two chronic diseases are called bronchitis and emphysema. This all happens when smoke damages the cilia, multiple tiny hairlike structures that's job is to keep your airways clean from anything that can harm your body.  Smoke soon travels towards your alveoli, tiny air sacs that speed up the absorption of oxygen between your lungs and your blood. Carbon Monoxide crosses your alveoli and into your bloodstream, slowly pushing off oxygen and placing itself onto hemoglobin. Hemoglobin are red blood cells that carry iron and oxygen from the lungs, into tissue and also carry carbon dioxide from tissue back to the lungs to be let out.

The bloodstream carries Nicotine, a poisonous substance found mainly in tobacco and smokes towards the brain. It triggers the release of dopamine, endorphins and other neurotransmitters to create pleasurable feelings and sensations towards your body, this is what makes smoking highly addictive. Nicotine and other chemicals from smoke cause the constriction of blood vessels and damage to their delicate lining, restriction of blood flow. This leads to thickening of blood vessel walls and cause blood platelets to become stickier, which will increase the possibility that blood clots will form. This can soon lead up to triggering heart attacks and strokes, which can potentially kill you.

Many chemicals inside cigarettes can trigger mutations in your DNA which can become very harmful, most times it can create cancer. Additionally, other ingredients like arsenic and nickel can disrupt the process of DNA repairing, causing the body’s natural ability to fight many cancers to decrease heavily.

Long term Effects?
Some long term effects of smoking are multiple types of cancer. Some examples are Lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, kidney cancer, collateral cancer, liver cancer and more. It can cause you to have shorter breath, damaged eyesight and weaker bones.  It can make it harder for females to become pregnant and for males it can cause erectile dysfunction which equally makes it very hard to have children.

Benefits of giving it up?
Almost twenty minutes after smoking your heart rate and blood pressure begin to normalise. After twelve hours the carbon monoxide levels decrease, increasing the blood's oxygen carrying capacity. After a day of quitting heart attack risks begin to decrease as blood pressure and your heart rate normalizes. After two days your nerve endings responsible for smelling and tasting start to recover and heal, allowing you to smell and taste better than when you were smoking. A month later your lungs become healthier, allowing you to slowly breath normally. After weeks your cilia start to recover and in nine months they are restored, increasing resistance to infections. After a year of quitting your heart disease risk plummets to %50 and blood vessel function improves greatly. After five years a chance of clot forming decreases heavily, and a risk of getting a stroke continues to reduce itself. After ten years the chance of fatal lung cancer decreases by %50, probably because the body's abilities to repair DNA is restored. Fifteen years later the probability of developing coronary heart disease is almost the same as a non-smoker.

Is vaping any better?

Vaping is actually almost exactly the same, if not worse than smoking as it puts nicotine straight into your lungs and bloodstream. Even if it doesn’t include  the smell of smoke or tar like regular cigarettes it is still pretty bad, especially if you use flavoured ones. Many chemicals that can cause cancer are in the vapor that is released from vapes. Some chemicals can actually get stuck in the deepest parts of your lungs, this includes formaldehyde, heavy metals and particles. Some flavours like cinnamon can actually cause inflammation of cells in your lungs.

In an one milliliter bottle of vaping e-juice, it contains around 100 puffs or hits. This the equivalent to 10 cigarettes or half a pack of one.

Infected 1

The man leans into you. There is a dark red almost black colour to the whites of his eyes. He is so close his nose is almost touching your nose. You can feel his breath when he says, “We all have it in here. We are all infected.” I stared at him as he started walking away, questioning if the man was mentally well.

Suddenly, the bus stopped with a jolt. Everyone jumped forward, wondering why it had stopped so suddenly. I thought someone had pressed the stop button right as we were about to pass a stop but there were none in sight. Thinking about it, there was nothing in sight for a few kilometers. I looked outside to see a man standing there, his arms non-existent and his face hidden by a cap. I wondered how he got the cap on, did he use his legs or get someone else to put it on him. As I was wondering the man started running towards us, not caring that he was probably going to hit the bus and potentially knock himself out.

Self Directed Learning Goals

Last week for our self directed learning goal I had chosen the goal "Ask for feedback when I am done." I said before that I would do this by asking for someone to proofread my work and leave comments on what I should do next. Currently I think I am still working on this as I still haven't asked many people for help whenever I finish.

Athletics

Image result for athletics

For the past few weeks we were working on athletics and preparing for the day. We learnt a lot of things, some which were new and some that we practiced to work on to become better. At the start of the unit I thought it wouldn't be that fun but as we went on it became really fun. I especially liked using the javelin because we had to throw the javelin and it was also our first time using it. Some skills I learnt were how to throw the javelin properly and how to do a proper run up, how to use the sprint blocks properly, how to perfect the triple jump ( which i didn't actually perfect). On the day of athletics I sadly wasn't able to compete because I volunteered to help out with shot put. I was able to see my classmates and friends do their choices, I saw a lot of races which was entertaining to watch. I wasn't able to get my results as I didn't do anything for athletics but it was still a fun day. I really liked how when we were training we were able to go into small groups and practice with friends who might've had the same skills as me. It was also fun to learn how to use a javelin properly and also be able to throw the javelin. If I had a choice to do athletics again I probably would.

Iqbal's Human Rights

Iqbal’s human rights were lost when his parents sent him off to pay a debt. At the age of four Iqbal was placed into a bonded labour program. He was sold off towards a master which took away his freedom, a human right that everyone should have. This affected him negatively as he wasn’t able to do as he wished and held against his will to pay off his parent's debt.  Sent to a carpenter, Iqbal was forced to make expensive carpets for foreigners to buy. Because his hands were small and he worked fast he was forced to create the hardest designs that were set out. He later found out later that his debt never ended and he was going to work forever. His rights were taken away from him because he was sent off to a master to forcibly work. This made Iqbal change for the better as soon after he had started learning about his human rights after he had escaped a carpet factory. Iqbal’s rights were taken away from the moment he was given away. Iqbal’s human rights were taken away from him as a child because of his parents. This is also likely why Iqbal fought to stop child labour and bonded labour.

Richard Pearse Fact File

Name: Richard William Pearse
Date Of Birth: 3 December 1877
Nationality: New Zealand
Occupation: Aviator
Date Of Death: 29 July 1953
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Facts
Richard Pearse Never Married.
He was sent to a mental hospital when he became very paranoid
There was a debate whether or not Pearse was actually the first person to fly a plane because of the Wright brothers. The Wright brothers were the first people to record and share their experience of creating a plane.
Richard pearse was said to be ahead of his time because he added motorised engines in his plane so that it could run further than someone having to do too much.
During his life Richard faced a lot of hardships involving his planes. First he criticised if he actually was the first person to create a plane because he never recorded his flights. He also never tried to brag about his works because he was a modest man, this is also why he was always told that he wasn’t the first to create the first planes. He overcame this by not talking about his studies to anyone and talking it upon himself to create the plane all by himself. He flew in public so if people wanted to watch they could.
Self Directed Learning Goal
Last week for our self directed learning goals I had picked the goal "Ask for feedback when I am done." I said I would do this by asking someone to read or look at my work and then ask for their opinion. This week I want to keep this as my goal because last week we were doing PATs so I wasn't able to work towards my goal. This week I should be able to get towards making this goal green before the end of the term.
Richard Pearse Timeline
1877- 3 December 1877 Richard William Pearse was born. He was born in Waitohi flat, Temuka. He was one out of nine children that his parents had. Richards father was a farmer while his mother's job was unknown. His family was cultured with music as they were an orchestra, Richard played the cello
1898 - Instead of going to study engineering in Canterbury college, his parents had given him use of a nearby 100-acre farm block as they couldn’t afford to send him to college. He built a workshop on the land, designed his own forge and lathe. He spent most of his time inventing gadgets
1899 - There was evidence that he was looking into ideas for powered flight.
1902 - His first patented invention was a new form of bicycle, though it wasn’t his interest. He was very interested in creating something that could fly instead of something that worked on land. Through Scientific American he was keeping touch with what inventions were made overseas. He had also built his first two-cylinder petrol engine. Using bamboo, tubular steel, wire and canvas he had built a monoplane. It resembled a modern Micro-light with its appearance. In that same year he had made his first public flight attempt down Main Waitohi Road. Around 50 Meters he had crashed on top of his own gorse fence even though no details were recorded. Later he had written that he did not achieve proper flight and also didn’t beat the american Orville brothers who had flown on 17 December 1903
1903 - Eyewitnesses testimonies that on march 31st was his first attempt at flying. He kept trying, achieving many further powered take offs or long hops which were all witnessed. None matched the description of a true flight.
1906 - He had patented his aircraft to be able to fly further. His first aircraft was a monoplane with wing flaps and a tricycle undercarriage with a steerable nose wheel and a propeller with variable-pitch blades driven by a petrol engine.
1911 - He had shifted to South Otago when he had failed as a farmer and was treated unkindly by most of his neighbours. He harmed at Loudens Gully near Milton. There he thought of original farm equipment.
1917 - Richard was conscripted into the Otago Infantry in May.
1918 - He was sent overseas in January but illness had prevented him from seeing any action and he returned to New Zealand in October later that year.
1921 - Pearse had moved to Christchurch where he had built three houses.
1930 - In a garage workshop in the house in Woolston he had set out to create his second aircraft, which was his Utility Plane.
1943 - He applied for a patent and it was approved in 1949. Constructed in absolute secrecy, Pearse’s plane had some of the main features of the Harrier jump jet, a tilting engine to allow for vertical take-off and landing. Airplane companies didn’t show that much interest and Pearse became bitter.
1951 - He became increasingly paranoid and was admitted into Sunnyside Mental Hospital.
1953 - On the 29th of July Richard William Pearse passed away due to a heart attack, he had never married.
